Air Conditioning

Air conditioners typically account for 10% of a home’s energy use releasing an average of two tons of carbon dioxide into the environment every year. Switching to a high-efficiency air conditioner and improving the efficiency of your home can reduce A/C energy use by 20%–50%.

By properly sizing your cooling system to your homes needs, sealing your ducts to reduce leakage and then balancing the air flow to each room, we can achieve a very comfortable and efficient home.

We can not overstate the importance of repairing the duct system as part of any air conditioner repair or installation. If your cold air return ducts has an air leak of 20% (getting air from somewhere other than your home such as the attic or crawlspace), it reduces your A/C output by 50%. A sealed duct system is essential for a cooling system to perform properly.

Typically, older A/C systems are oversized and very inefficient compared to modern equipment. Higher efficiency equipment costs slightly more, but over time it pays for itself in comfort and lower monthly electric bills. Most importantly, by sealing your duct system and insulating your home properly, we can reduce the size of your cooling system and drastically reduce your energy needs.

Finally, a properly insulated home (attic, walls, floor) will dramatically lower the need for cooling in the first place. This allows us to install smaller cooling systems, which saves on your initial investment cost AND your on-going operating costs.
