LAST DAY! WE WILL BE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS UNTIL 11PM TONIGHT JULY 20TH. Stimulus Money for Energy Efficiency for Berkeley Residents-- ME2 for You

Federal stimulus funding for whole-house energy retrofits. Starting July 6th 2010, Berkeley will offer incentives for energy efficiency improvements. The ME2 cash incentives are provided through federal stimulus funds awarded to Berkeley from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Energy retrofits help you save money on your PG&E bill; improve building comfort, safety, and durability; and reduce your carbon footprint!

Between July 6-July 20, the City will accept applications for rebates funded by federal stimulus funds for comprehensive energy audits and home performance improvements. Rebates can be used to help offset the cost of qualified energy audits and improvements. The amount of the rebate will be based on the measured improvement in your home's energy performance.

Audits will help determine what improvements can be made to your home to reduce energy use and improve your home’s safety and comfort, while saving money, reducing greenhouse gasses, and stimulating the local green economy. Tests will be required pre-and post-retrofit to verify improvements and provide quality assurance.

What services are eligible:

  • Comprehensive Energy Audit
  • Attic, Wall & Floor Insulation
  • Draft and Duct Sealing
  • Energy Efficient Lighting Improvements
  • Doors and Windows
  • Furnace & Water Heater Replacements

The more your improvements reduce energy use, the larger the rebate! See chart for rebate amounts:

How the rebates work:

The ME2 program offers up to $5,000 in rebates for modeled energy savings. PG&E offers up to $3,500 for the same program. The total available funding is $8,500 per home.

In this case, rebates will be awarded based on a lottery chosen from applications submitted during July 6-20. So, it is very important that you submit your application during this window of time in order to be part of the lottery
