Benefits of Wall Insulation

Is your home too drafty? Or a home that gets too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter? Many homes in the Bay Area lack wall insulation. No wall insulation causes homes to be drafty and uncomfortable especially in the summer and winter months. Insulated house walls provide a more comfortable home for your family. Insulating wall panels also reduces your utility bills as the heater or air conditioner does not need to be on as long to maintain the desired temperature. During the Bay Area’s hot summer months, wall insulation keeps the cool air inside. This is especially important on the South and West facing walls of your home where the sun hits the hardest. Insulated walls reduce the heat that enters your house making your home more comfortable. Wall insulation can have the added benefit of reducing the sound from outside that enters your home.

Blown Wall Insulation

Advanced Home Energy has several techniques for insulating walls. We can install blown cellulose insulation into the walls. On the first floor of homes we can install blown insulation from the inside or the outside of the house depending on what is easier. Usually for the second story of homes the blown insulation needs to be installed from the interior. The process starts by drilling 2’’ holes in the walls at regular intervals allowing insulation into every bay. Then insulation is blown into the walls using an insulation blower machine. This process ensures that the walls receive tightly packed insulation with no gaps. After the insulation is blown in, the walls are sealed and given a rough patch paintover. This process can be accomplished even on some of the small narrow brownstones in San Francisco.

Wall Insulation Batts

Depending on your home’s design it might be more practical to install denim batts into the walls. This can be done during a home remodel or on older houses where the design creates an unused crawl space on the outside of a room. Proper installation of denim batts creates a barrier with between the rooms in your home and the outside environment.
